Refraction

For our longtime friend, Paul, who recently passed away…

Refraction

And so the time came
When you sat up at the edge of your bed
And you leaned into celestial twilight
Your falling turned to flying,
Your saccade absorbed into one buoyant spiral.

We’ll see you again and meet in the sacred arroyo:
When the mountain has cried the last of her stones
We’ll recognize your face by your wild belovedness
And earth and light will embrace.
