from Sayings of the Desert Fathers
Let’s make ourselves “open to receive the Spirit’s flame so that it will come to rest in our hearts”
Holy Spirit, enfold me into yourself
And at my last step before I fall from night and day; and I wash up on heaven’s shore: may I be found again in the house of love…
“To what shall we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky can dwell in its shade.”
In this season, we contemplate the Holy Spirit’s invitation to make us His disciples. It is He who not only fills us with power for the sake of proclaiming and demonstrating the Gospel of the Kingdom, but it is also He who engages us with the divine and intimate conversation between the Father and the Son.
