Let's
add our voice to the countless prayers being offered right now (both on
earth, and in heaven) for the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita:

Old Man in
Sorrow (Vincent Van Gogh)
For All the
Floods,
Lord:
Father,
you once chose the flood waters to be the destroying angel of judgment
on mankind. But when your Son touched the water at his sacred baptism,
it became the agent of your grace for our salvation. Renew once
again, your redeeming acts on the earth:
Lord, have mercy on us
Jesus, you said, "Foxes have holes, and birds their nests, but the
Son
of Man has no place to lay his head." May your displacement and
sufferings join to the thousands who are now homeless and destitute. May
they find a lasting home in you, and may you find your home in them:
Christ, have mercy on us
Holy
Spirit, empower your saints in the land to engage the needs of all the
flood victims. Make us angels of healing, comfort, and service to the
sick, bereaved, and hungry. Make us a flood of grace and mercy that
overcomes all of the destructive floods in our lives and in our world.
Father, Son, and Spirit Holy: Have mercy on us.
Amen
