Eternal Autumn- David Morrison

“We don’t have to go far to find the treasure we are seeking. There is beauty and goodness right where we are. And only when we can see the beauty and goodness that are close by can we recognize beauty and goodness on our travels far and wide…”

-Henri Nouwen

Eternal Autumn
by David Morrison

For the coolness that greets the evenings
And the breeze that breathes new songs into us
We give you thanks, Abba-Creator
For the leaving of birds in formations to the South
And the expectation of new things to come
We give you thanks, Jesus-God’s Son
For the fading of green that blessed us in summer
And the changing landscape of our souls
We give you thanks, Spirit-Holy
Let thanks be our heart, oh Father.
Let thanks be our being, oh Jesus.
Let thanks be our way, oh Holy Spirit.
In the fading of days,
In the darkening of nights,
Let thanks be our eternal song.

This is so very true. We’re always looking for beauty in far-away-places, and often overlook the beauty in our own daily lives. Beauty on the journey is all around us. Thanks for this poem/prayer David.
