"Epiphany" means "to show" or to reveal. This season, (which completes the themes of Advent and Christmas), invites us to enter into the mystery of the early ministry of Jesus as He is "revealed" to be the Son of God throughout the gospels. We are encouraged to ask the question, "Lord, how would you reveal yourself to me in a new way at this time of my life?" Since the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit has actively renewed the church throughout  the ages with fresh revelations of the nature of God the Father and the love of Jesus, His Son. The Scriptures admonish that "those who have ears to hear, let them hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches." Let's seek God for a sharpening of our senses that we may experience His presence and truth revealed in the scriptures, one another, and through all creation.
Let's take a journey into the heart with the Magi as we learn to see God's divine presence in the small and simple things in life. Let's submerge into the depths of the Jordan River with Jesus as he takes on our humanity in baptism and turns the waters that were previously known for judgment by flood into sacred and life-giving waters once and for all time. Let's enter into the mystery of Jesus turning water into wine at the wedding feast of Cana as we allow God to transform our everyday lives into simple encounters of extraordinary joy and thanksgiving. And in this, let's resolve above all other things, to become (like the Magi) extravagant worshipers of God who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
