Straw Bale Building Updates - Tile & Doors
Page 10

We are getting really close now. We passed the electrical, plumbing and HV/AC inspections. We will be able to move when we finish the tile and put the last doors up. It's getting exciting!!

We are hand making all of our doors out of 2x8 lumber. Here are the last 2 double doors having the images set in. (I think God has a special place in his heart for carpenters.)

These double doors have an image of the Ark cut into them. On the Ark is the word "Ephphatha". This is the word that Jesus spoke to a deaf man as he healed his ears. "BE OPENED!"
There are four images on the inside of the doors, representing our inner life.
The doors are about 8 feet tall. Marsha, our tile girl, is modeling their height to the left. :)
Marsha has become a very good tile cutter/layer over the past few weeks. She is almost done with all the smaller rooms.
Here is a picture of the floor in their bedroom.

Getting rid of the grey! We sprayed a very fine coat of finish stucco coat over the inside to seal up the cracks and provide the color we wanted. We picked a nice Navajo white.
Using a hopper sprayer and an air compressor is definitely the way to go here. You loose a lot of the sand out of the mix as it bounces off the wall, but the color sticks really good. It also fills in the cracks really well. We used a pretty soupy mix and finished the insides in about 2 days.
