Desert Rain Cross at Sunset (c. 2003
Bill Helm)
Considering a Retreat with Desert Rain?
The desert is a most peculiar place to encounter God. It was in the
desert wilderness in which Yahweh led Israel to the promised land with
bridal affection. It was to the desert places that Jesus was drawn to
have communion with the Father. The Holy Spirit drove the ancient
monastic fathers and mothers into the desert to seek the face of God.
Thomas Merton wrote, "The Desert Fathers believed that the
wilderness had been created as supremely valuable in the eyes of God
precisely because it had no value to men." The desert truly is the place
in which God discloses the mysteries of His love into the seeker's heart.
We are an active community of families who are reviving the ancient
monastic tradition of hospitality. We would be honored to host your
personal or group retreat. Guests have the opportunity to interact with
community members and their children. We always have prayer meetings,
work projects, and outreaches happening in which guests are invited, but not
obligated to participate. We also share common meals and guests are
welcome to join in for a nominal and negotiable fee to offset our food
costs.
Our desire is to bless anyone on spiritual pilgrimage here. We avail
ourselves as "soul friends" to guests--available with a listening ear, a
prayer, and laughs. We are not a hotel for a private get-away. Rather,
we greet and meet extensively with guests upon their arrival. Our thirty
acres make it possible for solitude for those in need of walks and
talks with God. We also welcome larger groups, such as youth
or mission groups-or anyone to visit us. There is a lot of room around the property for tent
camping if you don't mind the desert nights which can be warm in the
summer and very cold in the winter. We have two guest
electric and water hook ups for RVs (50amp).
Additional Items: We have a dvd/video/computer screen projector and
screen for large video or computer display needs should you wish to use
it.
