Desert Rain Banner

Intercessions

Eric Sladana
Eric Saldaña

Let’s add our continued prayers to those of the entire community of Chaparral, NM for the Saldaña family who suffered the tragic loss of their son, Eric. May our outpouring of love sustain them in the hard months and years ahead.

The Desert Weeps

Father, you framed Eric’s form with your loving fingers in that secret place from your heart in the depths of the earth. He was cut down like a tender shoot before his time. Receive him back in that original innocence and ancient beauty.

Lord, take the dry wind that stings our eyes with despair
and change it into the hope of an approaching rain.

Jesus, through your suffering, you became the seed that was dead and buried in the earth. Let the mystery of your rising to life fill the unfathomable emptiness and desolation Eric’s family and friends are experiencing.

Lord, take our tears that fall on a parched land
and mingle them with your tears of solidarity with our suffering.

Holy Spirit, you are the comforting wind for all who mourn. Let your mercy-breeze carry this prayer to the Saldaña family—and to all the families whose children never came home; until you gather us all into the Father’s house.

Lord, take all or our deserts and wastelands of affliction
and transform them into the eternal garden where joy is forever.

Amen.
