Heat and More Heat
Desert diary from Tuesday, September 27, 2005

We suffer in heat…okay; not Serengeti heat but still; our garden barely lives, our foreheads all the day stay dripping wet, our parched mouths cry “we thirst!”… Hair up, shirts off; heat fatigue…one hundred plus for how much longer?
Heat is despairing, robbing, blinding…the hum of heat bears down on a soul and drums away the peace within; it’s lasting stay wears and wanes a downtrodden vision…water, water, cool breeze, relief!, relief!…
But still, unseasonal weather persists. Now, fire is different from heat…fire burns, fire cleanses, purifies and brings new growth underneath ashes. Heat wants, heat longs for change, heat is suffering and smothering and gasping for air.
I’d rather have the fire,..it’s hotter but it’s over quicker and new life emerges. Heat just hotly lingers with no real purpose. Give me Fire this Season of Flames…and then Kaboom!…early autumn!…really early autumn!
