A Prayer for My Sons

Lord,

Please make my sons Courageous. Help them to be willing to explore the unknown and risk it all for the sake of seeing You. Help them to never back down from what is right, even in the face of great persecution.

Please make my sons Sacrificial. Let them know that there is never victory without sacrifice. Please help them to pick heroes like You, who were willing to give everything for the sake of greater Love.

Please make my sons Persevering. Give them the ability to set their faces like flint and stubbornly advance through any trial. Please give my sons “Long obedience in the same direction”.

Please make my sons full of forgiveness. Keep them off the road of bitterness that so many of us travel, losing such good friends and family on our way through this life. Give them the ability to put others into your hands and refuse to drink the poison of unforgiveness.

Please make my sons Compassionate. Help them to cry for the defenseless. Let their hearts break for those who have no voice. Yours did. Give them your heart.

Please make my sons Recklessly in Love with You. Woo them. Capture their hearts. Ruin them for any other purpose in this world. Let them be “undone” like Isaiah was when he saw you. I pray that they would be so in love with You that they would spend all their imaginations on You.

Thank You Lord that You love my Sons more than I, You have adopted them as Your own. I join my prayers with Your prayers for them now. Thank You.
